A Helping Hand in Honduras
Sponsor Dodd Roberts and 13 CEO Students spent their spring break in the villages of Honduras with Mission Lazarus. The 5 day trip was designed to educate students about local communities and the ongoing needs that Mission Lazarus works to meet year-round. While the trip was brief, students were able to see how their work would be contribute to something that carries on long-term. During their time in Honduras, the group was able to tour Mission Lazarus facilities including the children’s home, medical clinic, church plants, and even their coffee plantation.
Three houses were the students’ projects for the week. Their goal was to improve the overall quality of life for the residents of those homes by installing concrete floors. Respiratory health and continual occurrences of bugs in their ears are problems Hondurans are faced with due to living and sleeping on dirt floors.
2017 CEO Vice President of Service Erika Teilmann said her favorite part about the trip was the fact that “not only were [they] able to do work for these people, but also with them.” While on the construction site, students were able to interact and work alongside Hondurans. The trip concluded with a gathering held by some of the locals with lots of food to thank students for their time.
This is an annual trip taken by CEO and we would love to have even more students join us next year! Contact Erika Teilmann with any questions you may have.
